2013年2月、フロリダ州サンフォードでアフリカ系少年トレイヴォン・マーティン君(17歳)が自警団を名乗る28歳のヒスパニック系男性のジョージ・ジマーマンに一方的に射殺された事件が起きました。
事件自体も酷い事ですが裁判で無罪判決が出た事により大きな波紋を呼びました。

この事件に対し、フージーズのワイクリフ・ジョン、モス・デフ＆デッド・プレズ＆マイク・フロー、チャカ・カーン＆エリック・ベネイ＆ケリー・プライス、ラヒーム・デヴォーン他、数多くのアーティストが追悼や怒りを歌で表明、アンドレ・シモンも"Trayvon"という楽曲を公開しました。

I have written this song inspired by and in honor of Trayvon Martin. All proceeds will be donated to the Trayvon Martin Foundation.

Trayvon is my son, he's your son. He's your nephew, cousin or brother and we can no longer let him be gunned down while no one is properly brought to justice. That's what this song is about.
