アルバム・レビュー
アルバムとしては'15年の「You, Me & Forever」以来。
参加ミュージシャンはアレサ・フランクリンやアニタ・ベイカー等のアルバムに参加していた名匠バリー・イーストモンドを筆頭に、'15年の「Soul Stories」も話題になったブレイク・アーロン、チック・コリアのバンド等に在籍していたカール・カーター、ジョーのバンド・メンバーとして来日経験もあるジャーメイン・パリッシュ、過去作でも共演しているヴィクター・ウィリアムス等が参加。
ゲストには、エリック・ロバートソンやインコグニート、ウィル・ダウニング、そしてインコグニートでヴォーカルを努めたメイザ・リーク等、豪華な顔ぶれが揃ってます。
先行公開されたインコグニートが参加した"Let's Take It Back"は両者の良いとこ取りの様なインスト・ナンバーです。
この他、全10曲中７曲はバリー・イーストモンドと共作で、アーバン感漂う開幕の"Stratosphere"やスパニッシュ・テイストの"Noche Romantica"といったインスト曲、エリックによる甘美な歌声との組み合わせが美しい"Is It the Way Back"そしてメイザ・リークの纏わりつく様なハスキー・ヴォイスが心地よい"Don't Make Me Wait"といったヴォーカル曲のバランスがとても良いです('∇')
この他、ウィル・ダウニングが歌う”Poetry In Motion”という歌詞からタイトルの着想を得たという事から本作の根幹を担う楽曲と言える"We'll Be Missing You"はアーティストへの功績表すもので、今は亡きアル・ジャロウとプリンスに捧げたトリビュート・ソングとのこと。プリンスと言えば"Noche Romantica"からもプリンスが好きそうなラテン・ジャズの香りが感じられる1曲楽曲でした。
プリンスについて
下記のインタビュー（現在は削除）でプリンスの事を聞かれたナジーは
（中略）It was an amazing experience, there was so much I learned from this guy.
それ（彼と仕事をした３年）は素晴らしい経験で、彼から学んだことはたくさんあります。I got to observe the person he really was. There was the person you saw, but then there was Prince the human being.
彼の本当の姿を観察することができた。見たままの姿もあれば、人間としてのプリンスもあったよ。I have to say he was one of the smartest and one of the most generous people I’ve ever met in the industry.
彼は、この業界で出会った人の中で、最も賢く、最も寛大な人の一人だったと言わざるを得ませんね。There’s a lot of quiet charity that’s never talked about that I was a witness to personally and how charitable he was to people.
僕が個人的に目撃した、決して語られることのないたくさんの慈善事業があり、彼がどれだけ人々を慈しんでいたかを知ることができました。It’s certainly another story to be told on him and hopefully of his legacy.
それは、彼について語られるべき、そしてできれば彼の遺産について語られるべき、もうひとつの物語であることは間違いありません。（中略）if you want bad stories about Prince, I’m not the guy to talk to.
「もしプリンスの悪い話を聞きたいのなら、僕は話すべき相手じゃない」と言ったんだ。I have none. I never saw him high, never saw him drunk, never saw him mess around with a bunch of women; none of that.
僕はは何も知らない。 彼がハイになっているのも、酔っぱらっているのも、大勢の女に手を出しているのも見たことがない。なにもない。I remember one time George Clinton came to our show and he said, ‘man you guys are boring, you don’t have no women, no drugs, nothing back here,’ (laughs).
ジョージ・クリントンが僕らのライヴに来て、「お前たちは退屈だ、女もいない、ドラッグもない、何もない」と言ったのを覚えているよ（笑）。
